Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)- Is It For You?

Your lymphatic system is the central component of your immune system. It protects the body by transporting the lymph fluid that contains infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body while draining and filtering out waste.

When the flow is interrupted, congestion occurs, resulting in swelling or edema in the tissues. As a result, normal toxic waste matter cannot effectively be released from the body, nor can the immune system function at optimum performance. The result is a wide range of dysfunction and disease.

The causes of lymphatic congestion range from injuries and surgery, inactivity and poor diet, to emotional stress, environmental toxins, hormone imbalance, and normal aging.

So when this happens, we need Manual Lymph Drainage. MLD is a gentle, hands-on technique that assists in the movement of lymphatic fluid through the body, clearing the pathways and reducing swelling. A friend of mine uses this analogy: "Think of a small stream that, over the seasons, accumulates twigs and leaves and the occasional large stone. The stream becomes a trickle. MLD is the park ranger who goes in and removes the blockages to allow the water to flow freely again."

Who benefits from MLD? Everyone! We all have a lymphatic system, and need it working at peak performance. Interested in learning more, or setting up an MLD session? Respond to this email or inquire during your next massage, I am happy to share this technique with you all!
